City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on June 24, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Present:  Mayor Brad Prins;  Council members: Roberta Duroe, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Sheila Ryker, Lance Holmen, Maintenance; Sharen Goeman, Clerk.  Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Minutes from the June 10, 2013 meeting were approved as read.Street Projects were discussed.  The city will address five intersections and fix two spots with water and sewer repairs.Lance will check the square footage and check with contractors regarding concrete.  Lance will also call Knife River.Mayor Prins explained the need to restructure the EMS staff reimbursements with the following rates:$20 – Show up to run$20 – Transport$20 – Meetings$15/hour – TrainingNo annual reimbursementNeed to be present for half of the meetings to get paid for meetings.Present for less than half of the meetings without a work excuse, no meeting pay.Meetings will be 1 ½ to 2 hours.These rates will include all EMS staff including firemen that assist with an ambulance call.Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, Abstain – Prins.  Motion carried.  To change the reimbursement rates retroactive to October 1, 2012.The clerk presented a new breakdown of the Culvert installation on County Road 52 and Duroe Street intersection.  A mistake was made in the calculation and the total is $4,155 and not $2,500 as first quoted.Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote to accept the increased cost assessment and pay the bill of $4,155.Motion Ryker, second Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote to change the City Clerk’s office hours effective July 1, 2013 to Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.Lance reported that the tennis courts and basketball courts are in poor shape.  The council instructed him to check into crack filling and a seal coat for the courts.Water in front of properties on East Whited coming from the school was discussed.The clerk was also instructed to send a letters to three business owners regarding the condition of their property.Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. having no further business.
