City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on July 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Present:  Mayor Brad Prins;  Council members: Roberta Duroe, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Sheila Ryker, Lance Holmen, Maintenance; Sharen Goeman, Clerk.  Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Minutes from the June 24, 2013 meeting were approved as read.Visitors:  Sharon Evers, Dennis Beukelman                Mychael Swan and Marcia Bofie, Agrinatural GasLance reported that Knife River will come this week to give estimates for street projects and Kevin Johnson and Andy Speilman have been contacted for estimates as well.Westbrook will do the crack filling at the volleyball and tennis courts in approximately two weeks.  The mayor reported that there is money in the Park & Recreation account to use for this.Lance also reported that Jeffers Dray Line is getting closer to putting in the culvert at the corner of Duroe and Courthouse.Dorr-Jones reported near the corner of Clark and Deaver the street is very poor.A Home Occupation Permit for Slim’s Small Engines was reviewed.  Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to approve the permit.A request from the SW Initiative Fund for a donation for $100 was reviewed.  Motion Duroe, second Ryker, unanimous vote not to donate $100 to the SW Initiative Fund.A letter from DSI (Development Services Inc.) regarding the Small Cities Development grant program was reviewed by the council.  The council instructed the clerk to call them and request they come to a council meeting in the future to explain the program.Ryker inquired if there is anything the city can do regarding the City Café building.  The clerk will check to see who owns the building.Residents on East Duroe Street have expressed concern over the water standing along the curb.A letter will be sent to a resident reminding him to mow his lawn.Mychael Swan and Marcia Bofie were present to update the council on the natural gas.  Swan reported that they plan to come to Jeffers but more interest is still needed before it can be finalized.A list of residents that have not responded was distributed to the council members and they will be going door to door to try to get the remaining numbers that are needed.Motion Ryker second Duroe to pay all bills and approve the financial report, unanimous vote.Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:25 p.m. having no further business.
