City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

eptember 9, 2013The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on September 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Present:  Mayor Brad Prins; Council members: Roberta Duroe, Sheila Ryker, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan.  Lance Holmen, Maintenance; Sharen Goeman, Clerk.    Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Minutes from the August 26, 2013 meeting were approved as read.The council discussed the fact that a modular home in a resident’s yard has not been moved.  The clerk will send a letter requesting that the trailer be off the property no later than September 30, 2013 or the council will need to take further action.The proposed levy was reviewed for 2014.  Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker unanimous vote to approve a 10% levy for 2014.Lance reported that the civil defense alarm didn’t work during the last test.  After checking on the alarm, Lance determined that a battery was blown.  The batteries were changed in 2007.  Lance will replace all the batteries and follow-up with an electrician test.The funds for this repair will come from the emergency alert fund.A claim has been made for the city for hail damage from the storm on August 31, 2013.Lance is waiting for the estimates for the heaters for the fire hall.Lance reported he purchased a plow for the city truck from Matt Peters.  The cost will be approximately $6,000.  Lance is still checking on the salt spreader.  The discussion on the salt spreader was tabled for the next meeting.Mayor Prins reported that the fire department would like to put an addition on the fire hall.  At the present time it will not house the size of trucks the department would like to purchase.Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote to pay the bills and approve the financial report.Motion Ryker, second Determan to adjourn at 8:03 p.m. having no further business.
