2014-06-23

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on June 23, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Present:  Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Sheila Ryker. Sharen Goeman, Clerk.  Lance Holmen, Maintenance.

Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Minutes from the June 9, 2014 meeting were approved as read.

Visitor:  Rene Celedon

The property at 308 E. Woodman was discussed.  The clerk reported that Jim Kartes stated that the fire department needs to obtain a permit from the State of Minnesota in order to burn down the house.  The permit would explain all that needs to be done.  Mark Marcy would be the contact person for this permit.

The Mayor will contact Marcy for the details.

Celedon was instructed that he could proceed as he wished, but the council is still interested in assisting with cleaning up the property.

Rod Rindfleisch was asked to attend this meeting but was not present.  The council instructed the clerk to contact the city attorney to ask how to proceed.

Building permits for Shawna Dorr-Jones to build a new garage and Matt Langland to move a garage onto his property were reviewed.

Motion Determan, second Ryker, motion carried with Dorr-Jones abstaining.

Lance explained that the sidewalk by the Senior Citizen’s building and Ryker’s City meats has a serious tripping hazard and wasn’t completed correctly by the contractor that Quam hired following the faulty sewer line installation.  Quam gives a warranty to their work and after much conversation; Lance was able to get Quam to replace the sidewalks at no cost to the city.  That will be done soon by Johnson Construction.

The council reported that a resident has appliances stored outside on their property.  A letter will be sent instructing them to remove the appliances.

It was reported that Joyce Hanish was burning garbage.  A letter will be sent explaining garbage cannot be burned within the city limits.

The council requested Lance find someone to spray for mosquitos before Outlaw Days.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. having no further business.
