City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on July 28, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Present:  Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Sharen Goeman, Clerk.  Lance Holmen, Maintenance.   Absent: Sheila Ryker.

Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Minutes from the July 14, 2014 meeting were approved as read.

Visitors:  Rene Celedon, Stuart & Darlene Therkelsen, Sandy Wood
         
Rene Celedon reported to the council that he has the abstract and deeds to 308 E. Woodman. Celedon reported that there is a $1,700 assessment on the property from the City of Jeffers.  

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote to waive the assessment fees at 308 E. Woodman.  Motion carried.

Demolition at Therkelsen property was discussed.  Motion Duroe, second Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote to pay Stuart Therkelsen $3,897 in assistance, to cover costs for clearing the property.

The unlicensed travel trailer at 220 S. Courthouse was discussed.  The 15 day waiting period has passed as of July 25, 2014.  

Motion Duroe, second Determan, unanimous vote to have Windom Towing remove the vehicle to the city’s impound lot per City Ordinance #65, Section V, 501.1.

The clerk will also contact Law Enforcement.

Building permits were reviewed for Jack Determan and Stuart Therkelsen.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote per Slim’s approval.

Lance reported an estimate from Tri-Town Plumbing to replace the air conditioning unit at City Hall for $2,931.62.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote to have Tri-Town proceed with the work.

The clerk reported that the Certificate of Deposit held at Edward Jones is up for renewal.  The clerk will renew it for one year at a rate of .65% with Edward Jones.

Correspondence from the Cottonwood County Auditor/Treasurer specifying a parcel that has been forfeited to the State of Minnesota for non-payment of property tax was reviewed.

Resolution #2014-05 Requesting Assessments Be Reassessed to Parcel #21-4170180 at 405 Stevens Avenue N. Stating the Jeffers City Council waives the 60 day period and approves the sale of the above stated property.  The Jeffers City Council reserves the right to reassess the special assessments on Parcel #21-4170180 and wishes to negotiate with the buyer of said property.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Ryker, second Duroe, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:30 p.m. having no further business.
