City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on August 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Sheila Ryker, Curt Determan, Lance Holmen, Maintenance, Sharen Goeman, Clerk. Absent: Shawna Dorr-Jones
Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Minutes from the August 11, 2014 meeting were approved as read.
Visitors: Willis Van Norman, Sandy Wood
Willis Van Norman was present to inquire about the Rural Service District tax relief for his farm land in the city limits. Van Norman spoke with Jan Johnson regarding the issue. Cottonwood County assessor had told the council that the rural service district would need to be in place by August 1, 2014 to be in effect for 2015. This was tabled until a future date.
Sandy Wood was present to inquire about the status of the camping trailer at 220 S. Courthouse.
Mayor Prins checked on the trailer and it looked like a current registration, but found out that it was actually a piece of green tape made to look like a tab. Windom Towing accompanied by a Cottonwood County Deputy will be towing the trailer sometime this week.
Mayor Prins spoke with Donna Stressman and the house at 308 E. Woodman will be cleaned out when she has time. Minions will take the concrete from the house.
Motion Duroe, second Determan, unanimous vote to have the Jeffers Fire Department burn down the house at 308 E. Woodman for training.
The city will be responsible for taking precautionary measures at the burn site.
Motion Ryker, second Duroe, unanimous vote to approve Martin’s building permit to move the garage from 308 E. Woodman to his property at 309 E. Scott Street, pending Slim’s approval. The garage must be removed before the house is burned.
Motion Determan, second Ryker, unanimous vote to approve the building permit for Bruce Heger.
Lance reported he will be flushing the water mains on Wednesday of this week.
Cats at 102 W. Clark Street have been making a mess on neighboring yards. The clerk will send a warning letter to the property owner.
The clerk will send a letter to the Barry Rand property regarding the pickup and camper to either enclose them or remove them from the property.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:32 p.m. having no further business.
