City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on June 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Curt Determan, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Sheila Ryker, Lance Holmen, Maintenance, Sharen Goeman, Clerk.
Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Minutes from the June 8, 2015 meeting were approved as read.
The council discussed the property across from the school. It has been cleaned up.
Building permits for Shawna Dorr-Jones to build a 3 panel fence, Doug Schroeder – a deck, and a modular ramp at the Cindy Gohman residence were discussed. Motion Determan, second Ryker, unanimous vote to approve all permits, pending Slim’s approval.
Resolution #2015-02 – Resolution Requesting Assessments to be reassessed to Parcels #21-41410150, #21-4141140 and #21-414130.
Introduced by Determan, seconded by Dorr-Jones and unanimous voted. Resolution passed.
Lance proposed purchasing a sprayer for mosquitos. The council agreed that Lance should go ahead and purchase the sprayer.
The clerk will check with area towns regarding water rates.
Motion Ryker, second Duroe, to hire Donna Stressman to inspect 201 E. Clark and have Jeffers Drayline raze the house when complete. Voted yes: Prins, Ryker, Determan, Duroe. Dorr-Jones abstains. Motion passed.
Seal coating was discussed and tabled.
The clerk will take a print of the Jeffers elevator to the Cottonwood County Historical Society.
The clerk requested permission to update the website and add more options to the format. Council agreed.
The clerk will contact Southwest Broadband to discuss any upcoming options for Jeffers.
Judy Morgan requests a copy of the minutes from April 13, 2015 and fence permit for Terry Pudenz. DSI and the Small Cities Development Grant were discussed. The clerk will contact Dan at DSI to discuss the progress.
Dennis Phelps, Mayor of Westbrook expressed to Mayor Prins the need for volunteer drivers from Jeffers. If any interest, please call Western Community Action at (507) 847-2632.
First Responder training was discussed, those interested in taking the course should contact Mayor Prins.
The council discussed having the attorney compose a nuisance ordinance so the city has the right to rid the problem if the resident doesn’t handle the problem. The clerk will contact the city attorney.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:07 p.m. having no further business.
