City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on August 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Curt Determan, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Sheila Ryker, Lance Holmen, Maintenance, Sharen Goeman, Clerk.
Visitors: Mindy Carter, Sharon Evers, County Engineer, Jed Rhubee
Sharon Evers was present to speak to the council regarding a broken electric line in the alley. Evers had Steve Sell and an electrician look at it and was told it was broken and had been spliced. Evers assumes that when the city installed water and sewer that it was accidentally cut. She would like the city to pay for the repair.
If it is determined that it was the contractor’s fault, the city will pay for the repair.
The County Engineer and Jed Rhubee were present to request the city’s assistance in getting Water and sewer lines to their newly purchased building, on the corner of Hwy 30 and County Road 4. The county is planning on adding a 20,000 square foot addition. The city will plan to give the county assistance on this project.
A building permit for Sophie Stoterau to install a privacy fence on her property following the City’s zoning requirements or obtain a variance from the neighbor. Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote.

A list of properties was made that need to cleanup up weeds and mow.
A letter will be sent to a resident for installing a fence without a permit. A triple fine will be imposed.
Sandy Olson requested her payment for 2015 Animal Control. The council agreed to pay 50% of her annual pay. Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote.
Rene Celedon inquired to whether the city would pay for his EMT refresher. The council requested that Celedon inquire after January 1, 2016.
The Jeffers United Methodist Church requested that their garbage drive by fee be dropped From their bill at the parsonage due to the fact that the minister is only their one night per week. The council stated they could not do this due to the fact that fee helps bring Hometown to Jeffers.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:05 p.m.
