City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on August 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Sheila Ryker, Curt Determan, Shawna Dorr-Jones. Sharen Goeman Clerk, Lance Holman, Maintenance.
Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Minutes from the August 8, 2016 meeting were approved as read.
Visitors: Keith Scheidt, Sandra Wood
Wood presented pictures of property in Jeffers that has violations of the Cottonwood County nuisance ordinance. The city will check with a building inspector for details. The clerk will also check with family services regarding living conditions. A letter and copy of the city’s nuisance ordinance will also be sent to the residents.
Keith Scheidt was present to inquire about the demolition of the house on property he owns in the city. Scheidt will check on costs of burying on his rural property.
The Luck house was discussed. Donna Stressman will be contacted to inspect the house to see what needs to be done.
A special hearing has been requested by Bonnie Lewis and John Garritson regarding their dogs being deemed dangerous. The hearing will be held on August 31, 2016 at 7 p.m.
Discussion on curb and gutter in select areas in town was held. Lance will get estimates.
Alley tree and brush trimming has been completed by the city. Invoices will be sent to property owners with the minimum fee being $25.
Lance is checking into street sweeping cost.
The clerk reported that documents over 10 years old are being sorted and selectively destroyed according to the records retention policy.
Mayor Prins reported on the Highway 30 Scoping meeting he attended in Westbrook. Highway 30 is set to be redone in 2021.
A new deck on a resident’s house was in question as to whether a building permit was obtained.
The Jeffers Lion’s club would like to assist in the cleanup and repair of the school pictures. The council agreed. Interest in the Thobe property was discussed. Lance will check into the price of capping the well.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan to pay all bills and approve the financial report.
Motion Ryker, second Determan to adjourn at 9:12 p.m. having no further business.
