City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on March 27, 2017. Present Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Sheila Ryker, Jed Rhubee, Sharen Goeman, Clerk/Treasurer, Lance Holmen, Maintenance
Mayor Prins call the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The minutes from March 13, 2017 were approved as read. Visitors: Superintendent Bruce Olson, Dallas Giese, Curt Carter
Red Rock Central Superintendent Bruce Olson was present to speak to the council about purchasing the Jeffers school building. He explained that the district would pay to remove the asbestos and would be interested in leasing the school back for approximately 3 to 5 years.
Discussion was tabled on the Jeffers school building. Cleanup Day has been set for Saturday, May 13th.
If Jeffers residents wish to be put on the list for cleanup day, they should stop at City Hall and pay the $20 fee by Thursday, May 11th. This year mattresses will also cost $25 at the curb and car seats $3.
If you bring the mattresses to the landfill, it will only cost $11 each.
On June 6th the county will be at the Jeffers County shop collecting mattresses, car seats, electronics and paint/chemicals.
Motion Determan, second Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote, The City DOES NOT WAIVE the monetary limits on municipal tort liability established by Minnesota Statutes, Section 466.04 to the extent of the limits of the liability coverage obtained from LMCIT.
The clerk gave an update on the tax bill for the 2014 LGA forgiveness.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to purchase Christmas lights for the light poles, for approximately $2,500.
Discussion on the electrical panel for Whited Street was discussed. Mayor Prins will talk with SC Electric regarding this.
Spring street sweeping will happen in the next month.
The clerk will send letters to residents who have started building projects on their homes with obtaining building permits.
New Vision submitted a building permit for a Bin and scale and pit building. Motion Ryker, second Dorr- Jones, unanimous vote pending approval by Slim.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report. Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:40 p.m. having no further business.
