City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on September 11, 2017.  Present Mayor Brad Prins – Council members: Sheila Ryker, Jed Rhubee, Curt Determan, Shawna Dorr-Jones; Assistant Clerk/Treasurer Peggy Hubley.  Lance Holmen, Maintenance was absent.

Visitors:  Dominic Jones, Red Rock Rural Water

Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.  The minutes from August 28, 2017 were approved as read.

Dominic Jones, representing Red Rock Rural Water answered questions and presented information in regards to bringing Rural Water into the City of Jeffers.  There was discussion about having a public meeting sometime in November.  Dominic will ask the Red Rock Rural Water engineer, Patrick Deering, to attend the next City Council meeting to further discuss the issue.

There was discussion on bringing higher speed broadband services into Jeffers.  WindomNet is looking into this and Rhubee will also get information from Woodstock Communications which brings broadband into Westbrook.

The council set the 2018 Levy at $180.000 with a $3,450.00 increase from 2017.  Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan.  The motion passed with 4 votes in favor and 1 against.
Spraying for mosquitos will be done again soon.

Ryker is planning to pack up the trophies at the Jeffers Elementary School on Wednesday.  The council was invited to help.

Dog fines were discussed.  The council would like a list of people who were sent notices about their dogs running at large.

There was discussion about residents burning before October 1.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:00 p.m. having no further business.  

The next meeting will be on September 25, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. instead of the usual 7:00 p.m.
