City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on March 12, 2018 at Jeffers City Hall. Present Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Sheila Ryker, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, and Jed Rhubee. Sharen Goeman, Clerk, Lance Holmen, Maintenance.

Mayor Prins call the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The minutes from February 26, 2018 were approved as read.

Visitor: Dominic Jones  RRRW

Jones was present to go through the preliminary purchase agreement with the council. RRRW would like to do the isometric piping plan for the city for the switchover.

The agreement will go back to the attorney for the changes and Jones will come back at a later date with the updated version.

Water rate adjustments were discussed.

The clerk reported that City wide spring cleanup is set for May 19, 2018.

Lance reported that the new LED lights for Whited Street will be approximately $286/light. SC Electric will do the installation and a certified electrician will be onsite.

The fire department proposes an increase for fire protection to the townships. The proposed new rate is $180/section.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to set the rate at $180/section effective in 2019.
The clerk reported on a financing option from MN Rural Water.

Liability issues for an emergency defibrillator were researched by the city attorney and the city and business would be covered by Minnesota Statute 604A.01. The Jeffers post office lobby was a suggestion as to where it could be placed due to the fact that the lobby is open 24/7. The clerk will check with the post office.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:09 p.m. with no further business.
