City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on March 26, 2018 at Jeffers City Hall. Present Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Sheila Ryker, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Jed Rhubee. Sharen Goeman, Clerk, Lance Holmen, Maintenance.

Mayor Prins call the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The minutes from March 12, 2018 were approved as read.

A premises permit application for lawful gambling activity was presented for approval from the Darfur Sportsmans Club at The Slipper Inn.

Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to approve the application.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote that the City DOES NOT WAIVE the monetary limits on municipal tort liability established by Minnesota Statutes, Section 466.04 to the extent of the limits of the liability coverage obtained from LMCIT.

Lance will get estimates for tree removal on Clark Street.

Rhubee announced that a wind farm that will be building east of Jeffers will be establishing a community fund that can be used by towns in the footprint of the wind farm.

The $25,000 CD being held at Edward Jones was renewed for 1 year at 2.15%.

The council discussed a recent inquiry by a prospective resident regarding keeping goats and chickens within the city limits. The council stated that goats and chickens are farm animals and farm animals arent allowed within city limits.

The water bill policy was discussed. As a reminder, the bills are due on the 15th of the month. A shutoff notice will be sent with 20 days to pay the past due amount before shutoff occurs. If the payment is not received by the 25th, the late fee will be applied.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Rhubee, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. with no further business.
