City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on September 10, 2018 at Jeffers City Hall. Present Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Sheila Ryker, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Sharen Goeman, Clerk. Absent: Council member Jake Barlow, Lance Holmen, Maintenance.
Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The minutes from August 27, 2018 were approved as read.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to have City Attorney draw up an agreement if rural water users want to sign a contract of assessment for the $5,000 fee. The terms will be 5% for 5 years. The clerk will send this information to the rural residents.
Motion Determan, second Ryker, unanimous vote to increase the preliminary levy 5% for a total of $189,000.
The 2019 budget was reviewed by the council. Motion Ryker, second Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote to approve the 2019 Budget.
Water rate increase and fund balances were discussed and will be acted on next meeting. Letters to city residents who are in violation of city code will be sent.
The Carter house located at 407 Best Avenue N. is clean and ready for demolition.
Curb & gutter is complete on Stewart Avenue.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to pay the bills.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:18 p.m. having no further business.
