City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on January 12, 2026, at 7 p.m. at
City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Curt Determan, Sheila
Ryker, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Michael Schoper. Lance Holmen, Maintenance; Sharen
Goeman, Clerk.
Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Minutes from December 15, 2025,
meeting were approved as read.
Visitor: Cory Schroeder, Fire Chief Jeffers Fire
Schroeder was present to request the approval of the new fire department officers.

Motion Determan, second, Schoper, unanimous vote to approve the officer positions.
Schroeder also requested a raise in the annual pay for the fire department officers.
$750 Treasurer, $750 Secretary, $750 Assistant Chief and $1,000 for Chief.
Motion Schoper, second Ryker, unanimous vote to approve the fire department
officer pay.
Schroeder also requested a pay raise for calls/meetings and training to $20/hour.
Motion Ryker, second, Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote to approve the pay raise.
Discussion was held regarding first responder tuition bill. Motion Dorr-Jones,
second Ryker vote to pay the tuition. Ryker, Dorr-Jones, Determan, Schoper Aye,
Prins Nay. Motion carried.
The ambulance contract with Westbrook Ambulance was reviewed. Motion Dorr-
Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to approve the contract.
A report was made to the city clerks office regarding a dog off leash. A fine will be
sent to the resident.
RESOLUTION #2026-01 City of Jeffers DOES NOT WAIVE Monetary Limits on
municipal tort liability
The City of Jeffers DOES NOT WAIVE Monetary Limits on municipal tort
liability established by the Minnesota Statutes, Section 466.04 to the extent of
the limits of the liability coverage obtained from the LMCIT.

RESOLUTION #2026-02 - SETTING FEES AND CHARGES FOR 2026
Adopted: Determan
Second: Schoper
Unanimous vote.
Lance reported that a pump is leaking at the ponds so he will check on prices of a
replacement.
Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay the bills and approve
the financial report.
Motion Ryker, second Determan, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:10 p.m. having no
further business.
