City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on May 11, 2026, at 7 p.m. at City Hall. 

Present:

Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Shawna Dorr-Jones, Michael Schoper, Curt Determan.
Sharen Goeman, Clerk. Absent: Council: Sheila Ryker, Lance Holmen, Maintenance .

Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00p.m. Minutes from April 27, 2026, meeting were approved as read.

Due to a scheduling conflict, Carlson SV was not able to present the audit for 2025. Handouts were provided for the council to review.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to approve the audit.
A building permit for Lee Hanish was reviewed. Motion Schoper, second Determan, unanimous
vote to approve the building permit.

A request by Bruce Sevcik was received by the Cottonwood County Engineer to barricade County State Aid Road 32/Whited Street between Courthouse Avenue and Deaver Avenue.

Motion Determan, second Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote to support the request for the permit.
The council discussed pay for a road crew for city streets. The council agreed to $25/hour for this task.

The Board of Review was held on April 29, 2026. Only two council members were present and
neither of them had the required training. The County Assessor then held an open book meeting. The council discussed what should be done in the future for board of review. 

Motion Schoper, second Determan, unanimous vote to continue with this process and let the County Assessor oversee all property tax issues.

A warning letter will be sent to a resident for dog off leash. A letter will be sent to a resident that is storing tires on their property.

Motion Determan, second Schoper to cancel the council meeting on May 25, 2026, due to the
Memorial Day holiday, unanimous vote. Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay the bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Schoper, second Determan to adjourn at 8:04 p.m. having no further business.
