City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on June 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Shawna Dorr-Jones , Roberta Duroe, Curt Determan, Sheila Ryker; Lance Holmen, Maintenance; Sharen Goeman, Clerk.

Mayor Brad Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Minutes of the June 13, 2011 meeting were approved as read.

Old business of the unlicensed bus at 308 E. Woodman was discussed. The bus has been removed from the property.

The clerk spoke with the zoning official and landscaping pavers, bricks, etc., does not need a building permit. Adding asphalt to your driveway is considered maintaining not changing, so therefore, it doesn’t need a permit.

Building permits were reviewed. Motion Determan, second Dorr-Jones, unanimous vote to approve the building permits.

The dog at 108 N. Courthouse was discussed. The chain on the dog is too long, allowing the dog to come into the alley when children ride their bikes through. The clerk will send a letter informing the resident he must keep his dog restrained within the limits of his property.

Delinquent water bills were discussed as to whether a landlord is responsible for a tenant’s water bill if left unpaid. The clerk will check with the League and the city’s ordinances.

The clerk will send a letter to the property owner of 211 W. Clark Street, instructing him to remove the furniture from the yard.

Junk cars were discussed. The clerk will check on the ordinance for the rules.

Lance reported that concrete work is being done in town

The clerk will put a reminder in the July bill for the increase in water and sewer rates in the November bill.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Duroe, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Ryker, second Determan, and unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. having no further business.
