City of Jeffers - City Council Meeting

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on August 22 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Shawna Dorr-Jones, Roberta Duroe, Curt Determan, Sheila Ryker; Absent: Lance Holmen, Maintenance; Sharen Goeman, Clerk.

Mayor Brad Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Minutes of the August 8, 2011 meeting were approved as read.

Grader repair discussion was tabled.

The following building permits were reviewed:

· shingles, siding, widows, cement patio, deck, expand sidewalk for garage.
· fence, 24’ x 5’6”

Motion Duroe, second Ryker, unanimous vote to approve building permits upon approval of Zoning Administrator.


108 N. Courthouse put up a fence without a building permit. A triple fine will be imposed.

Council wondering about paperwork for kennel license at 108 N. Courthouse. Kennel licenses need council approval.

An estimate from Dakota Pump & Control for the pump at the ponds. There have been problems priming the pump.

New piping, motor, mileage, travel expenses, fuel surcharge – onsite labor (2) days. Total estimate = $9,968

Excavation work would not be included and needs to be done prior to DPC arriving on the job site.

Complaint from a resident regarding rats coming out of a garage. Mayor Prins discussed this problem with the property owner

Ryker reported interest for a horseshoe pit in the park. 4 pits north of the basketball court. Funds would be taken from the Park & Recreation account.

Ryker also inquired about new playground equipment.

Weeds on Whited Street were discussed.

Dorr-Jones suggested installing stop signs on the east side of the school at Clark and Deaver, due to speed of traffic on that street.

Motion Duroe, second Determan to put a 4-way stop sign at the corner of Clark and Deaver. Unanimous vote. Lance will order 4 stop signs.

Determan suggested building dugouts at the ball field for protection. Labor would be donated and material would need to be purchased. Discussion was tabled.

Watch for Children signs were discussed at four locations:

· Methodist Church – facing west
· Alan Pudenz empty lot – facing east
· Stuart Therkilson’s – facing south
· Determan’s empty lot – facing north

The clerk will check with the county for approval.

Mayor Prins will get a list of junk vehicles to the clerk to send notices.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Ryker, second Duroe, unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:40 p.m. having no further business.
