The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on June 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present: Mayor Brad Prins, Council members: Roberta Duroe, Sheila Ryker, Shawna Dorr-Jones, Curt Determan, Lance Holmen, Maintenance., Sharen Goeman, Clerk.

Mayor Prins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Minutes from the May 14, 2012 meeting were approved as read.

Visitors: Cynthia Gohman, Elizabeth Stumpf, Ray Marsh, Norman Johnson

Mayor Prins reviewed a home occupation permit application with the council. Cynthia Gohman, 108 N. Courthouse is requesting to start a dog grooming business at her residence.

Motion Determan, second Duroe, unanimous vote to approve the Home Occupation Permit for a Dog grooming business at 108 N. Courthouse.

Gohman, Marsh, and Johnson then requested information regarding the zoning of the former Jeffers Legion building. The Mayor reported that it is commercially zoned. Gohman is contemplating purchasing the building from the Jeffers Legion to have a dog grooming business along with possible retail in the future. It will not be used for a kennel.

The clerk presented the LP Tank Ordinance prepared by the City Attorney to the council. The council discussed what the setbacks should be and agreed that it should be the same as what is on a building permit. 10 feet on the sides, 20 feet in the rear and 25 feet in the front. Without obstructing view at intersections.

Motion Ryker, second Duroe, unanimous vote to accept the LP Tank ordinance with the additions stated above.

Dan Benz was present to ask the council’s permission to apply for a Tanker Grant for the Jeffers Fire Department.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Ryker, unanimous vote to have a grant writer prepare the grant for the fire department.

Lance reported that SW Dust Control should be applying the product in the upcoming weeks.

The water that runs off the school onto east Duroe was discussed.

Mayor Prins explained that he signed the documents for the Jeffers portion of the radio grants for the fire and ambulance departments.

Motion Dorr-Jones, second Determan, unanimous vote to pay all bills and approve the financial report.

Motion Ryker, second Determan to adjourn at 9:05 p.m. having no further business, unanimous vote.
